The Southern Iowa Chapter celebrated its second anniversary on April 25 in Lenox, Iowa. The event, which included a catered dinner and program, was attended by more than 50 Northwest alumni and friends.
Chapter members also volunteered at the Special Olympics, attended the Northwest Encore performance of “Ring of Fire” on campus and hosted a golf outing. As in the past, the chapter will assist with the Northwest booth at the Iowa State Fair and plans to have a float in the Diagonal Labor Day parade.

The Southern Iowa Chapter participated in several local parades, proudly displaying the chapter’s banner along the parade route. In June, members of the Southern Iowa and Central Iowa chapters enjoyed a relaxing evening at the Southern Hills Winery in Osceola, Iowa, followed by dinner at Terrible’s Casino. Chapter members also assisted with the booth at the Iowa State Fair. The chapter plans to sponsor a trip to campus to attend an Encore performance.

In April, several members of the Southern Iowa Chapter volunteered to help with the Special Olympics in Creston, Iowa. To celebrate the chapter’s first anniversary, there was a social at Smith’s Sports and Spirits. This summer, the chapter participated in several area parades and hosted a golf outing. The chapter is selling T-shirts, and the proceeds go toward the Southern Iowa Alumni and Friends Chapter Scholarship. The Southern Iowa Alumni and Friends Chapter participated in the Northwest Homecoming Parade. In April, the chapter celebrated its first anniversary with a social and by volunteering for the Special Olympics. Bev Schenkel, dean of enrollment management, discussed student enrollment at the social. The chapter has a good start on its scholarship fund and welcomes fellow Bearcats to join in the fun with other Northwest alumni and friends in southern Iowa.

The Southern Iowa Chapter hosted a social in Creston, Iowa, in June with more than 60 alumni and friends attending. Dr. Bob Boerigter, Northwest's director of athletics, was the special guest. The chapter also participated in several local parades during the summer. Several members returned to campus in September for a campus tour and a Bearcat football game. There was a large attendance, including several members from the Alumni Association's Board of Directors, to witness the chapter receive the banner and gavel. The new Southern Iowa Chapter recently elected officers and made committee appointments. Members participated in the Northwest Homecoming parade. A large group gathered at Smith's Spirits and Sports in Mount Ayr, Iowa, to watch the Bearcats play in the national championship game. The Northwest Missouri State University Alumni Association is establishing alumni chapters worldwide. Organized by alumni volunteers and supported by the Office of Alumni Relations, these chapters sponsor a variety of activities for alumni to get together socially and stay abreast of news from Northwest Missouri State University.
