eCollege Course Management System software is Northwest Missouri State University’s campus-wide course management software (CMS). Course sites should be requested by the faculty member in the Faculty Create-a-Course Request form. The eCollege CMS is offered in eCompanion format for campus-based, web supplemented courses and for blended courses and the eCourse format for online courses. A variety of tools and techniques are provided through the eCollege CMS including authoring and content development tools, e-mail, chat, web conferencing, document sharing, dropbox, webliography, and gradebook.
ClassLive Pro is a web conferencing software available through eCompanion and eCourse course sites. It must be requested by the faculty member in the Faculty Create-a-Course Request form or via e-mail to the CITE Office.
ClassLive Pro is powered by Elluminate software which creates a virtual, collaborative classroom environment using an interactive whiteboard. Basic functionality includes audio, video, interactive whiteboard, chat, application/document sharing, and moderator/participant tools.
Tegrity is a software system that allows a faculty member to do a PowerPoint based lecture using a microphone and video camera (optional). Then it will automatically post it to the web for student viewing. It can also do screen recordings. Tegrity recording is done in the CITE Recording Studio. The newest version allows students to download the lecture as a podcast. Super easy to do and use!
Impatica for PowerPoint is a software conversion tool. Impatica takes a PowerPoint presentation and compress it to a much smaller size in than the original. Impatica work great for narrated PowerPoints which are usually too large to post on the Internet. Impatica also creates a Java-based streamer which will stream the compressed presentation file over the Internet. Learn more about Impatica.
Respondus is an exam management tool. It is used to upload and download exams in the eCollege environment. It can also be used to create paper exams. Check to see if your publisher has a testbank in Respondus format to make for easy transfer of questions to course site. Learn more about Respondus.
StudyMate is tool by Respondus in which interactive flash games can be created with testbanks of questions. Create the flash games without knowing any programming and then post to your course site. Give students tools to study content material. This works for courses that need to build vocabulary for the content. Learn more about StudyMate.
Audacity is a freeware audio recording software that allows multi-track recording. Great for building pod-casts. Learn more about Audacity.
Classroom Presenter, an integral part of Conference XP, is a free software package developed by the University of Washington. The software provides a faculty member, using a Tablet PC, with a wide range of high quality pen styles and colors to annotate PowerPoint-based presentations or empty whiteboard slides. Marked up slides (known as decks) may be saved for later distribution to students.
Captivate and Camtasia are special software to capture images from the computer screen. Captivate works great to create tutorials of software programs or to demo through a process. The CITE office provides Northwest faculty and students with Turnitin’s plagiarism prevention software. This product may be used to check whether submitted Microsoft Word files contain plagiarized materials. Every paper submitted is returned in the form of a customized Originality Report. Results are based on exhaustive searches of billions of pages from both current and archived instances of the internet, millions of student papers previously submitted to Turnitin, and commercial databases of journal articles and periodicals.
There has been growing interest among faculty across the Northwest campus to utilize an electronic student response system (clickers) within their classes. These systems can be used within a class to promote an interactive environment by allowing students to answer multiple choice and numeric response questions. Instructors can actively engage the students during the entire class period, gauge their level of understanding of the material being presented, and provide prompt feedback.
Softchalk is software for building lessons for the web. It comes with an easy to use interface that builds web pages that look professional and engage students. It comes with 11 different activities that are easily built and demand student interactivity with the content presented.
A wiki is by definition a Web 2.0 tool that promotes collaboration, allows content creation by students and helps to build learning communities. The CITE Office will be running a test this semester by supplying wiki web sites to courses by request. We are using an open-source wiki engine, called Screwturn and have it installed on the CITE server.
CITE has license for 1 Ellumninate Next Bundle that will allow faculty to record a live session in the vRoom and then publish it so that it can be viewed on the web for more than one course and be re-usable for more than one trimester.
