While the quest for quality permeates leading organizations – the journey is never ending. In fact, quality has been called the ante to get into today’s competitive game. With that in mind, Northwest’s MBA with Quality Emphasis is designed to provide students a general business foundation via seven core MBA courses while also providing significant insights about developing, delivering, and assessing quality via four quality emphasis courses. This program will instill in students the foundations of the quality movement, the critical concepts of quality, a thorough understanding of continuous improvement practices, and afford them the opportunity to put their knowledge into practice.
A student who wishes to pursue the MBA with Quality Emphasis must meet the following requirements for admission:
Meeting the minimum qualifications is not an automatic guarantee of acceptance into the MBA-Quality Emphasis program. A selection committee will review applications of all students who meet the minimum criteria for admission. After their review, the committee will notify applicants of their acceptance. Students who are not accepted into the MBA-Quality Emphasis program may be accepted into the general MBA, MBA-Accounting Emphasis, MBA MIS Emphasis, MBA-Ag Economics Emphasis, or MBA-Health Management Emphasis.
MBA candidates pursuing an MBA with Quality Emphasis must take seven required core courses (21 hours) and an additional four quality emphasis courses (12 hours) to complete the required 33 hours. Following is an outline of the MBA with Quality Emphasis program requirements.

*Students who have not completed a course at the undergraduate level in international business must complete 55-631 International Business in addition to the 11 courses listed above.
**54-618 Executive Seminar must be taken during the last trimester of enrollment.
In addition to the above course requirements, a research component must be on file in the office of the dean, Melvin D. and Valorie G. Booth College of Business and Professional Studies, prior to applying for approval to take the comprehensive examination. The research component may consist of any original individual or group research paper completed as a requirement for any MBA graduate course with instructor approval. A research component form may be obtained from the Graduate Office or from the Office of the Dean, Melvin and Valorie Booth College of Business and Professional Studies. The student will complete the research component form, obtain the signature of the instructor of the course, and return the form and a copy of the research paper to the dean’s office. The dean’s office will forward the research component form to the Graduate Office and retain a copy of the paper in the student’s file.
tudents must pass the Graduate Management Business Exam or the Booth College comprehensive exam as a condition of graduation. The requirements for the Booth College Exam allow students to respond to two essay questions from a field of five general MBA questions and one essay question from a field of two quality-emphasis questions.
