Since you are paying Northwest tuition, and in general, housing costs and living expenses in Mexico are cheaper than in the USA, you will not be paying much more than you do in Maryville. With prior authorization from the financial assistance office, Distinguished, Presidential and Regents scholarships, departmental scholarships, Bright Flight, and Pell grants can be applicable to study abroad programs. You continue to receive financial aid through Northwest as long as you stay enrolled as a full time student.
Once you have made a decision on which semester you would like to go and to where, then we will set you up with a budget. You can then take this budget to financial aid. Your budget will be catered to your wants and needs. It will comprise of several items including transportation and airfare to traveling expenses and meals.
If the student is eligible for financial aid during his/her program abroad, the study abroad office will issue a budget of total costs for the entire program. This budget will be submitted to the Financial Aid office to calculate the amount of aid available for the student. The student may or may not get financial aid that covers the budget suggested by the Study Abroad Office. This depends on calculations and eligibility of the student and the family income as reported to the IRS and though FAFSA.
