Master of Science in Education Teaching

English Language Learners and ELL Certification

Northwest offers an add-on certification for ELL/ESOL. ELL Certification is recommended for mainstream elementary and secondary teachers who have English language learners in their classes and have completed a Masters degree in Education.

The Masters Degree in Teaching ELL is a 32 credit hour program. This degree is recommended for mainstream elementary and secondary teachers of English language learners who do not already have a Masters degree in a related field.

Admission Requirements

A minimum overall undergraduate GPA of 2.75 OR an overall undergraduate GPA of 2.50-2.74 AND a 3.25 GPA on eight hours of required graduate coursework at Northwest in the major program.
Submit valid teaching certificate (or statement of deficiencies)
Minimum combined score of 700 on the verbal and quantitative sections of the GRE
Pass writing assessment
Complete Approved Program Form with advisor
