MARYVILLE, Mo. -- The Northwest Missouri State athletic department has announced today the hiring of Morris White as the Director of Athletic Marketing, Promotions and Licensing.
"I am extremely excited about this opportunity," said White. "I feel very fortunate to be an employee of my alma mater. I expect to build on what has been established and can't wait for my duties."
The native of St. Louis, Mo., has been an intern at Northwest for the past year. He has helped direct the National Women and Girl's in Sport's Day in early February. Under his supervision, the Northwest student cheering section has increased at home contests. He formed "The Green House", a student-only section at football home games. White also organized the 2005 football postseason awards ceremony and celebration in mid-February and assisted in the National Championship party in Florence, Ala.
White was a four year letterwinner at wide receiver and kick returner for the Bearcat football team from 2001-04. In his senior season, the team captain helped lead Northwest to a No. 3 national ranking and an appearance in the Division II NCAA Quarterfinals. White left Northwest fifth on the career list for kickoff returns (43) and sixth for kickoff return yardage (1,064).
White will officially begin his duties on April 1. White acquired his bachelor's degree in psychology with a double minor in speech communications and health education last April from Northwest.
"Morris has been very active in our Marketing and Promotions department and will provide the energy, enthusiasm and continuity that is needed," said director of athletics Dr. Bob Boerigter. "We look forward to his becoming a full time member of our staff."
White replaces Kristen Konoske, who is officially resigning her position on March 31 for personal reasons. Konoske's fiance resides in Omaha, Neb., and Konoske has been hired as the Omaha Country Club Director of Marketing.
"Kristen's energy, ideas and many contributions will be missed," noted Boerigter. "She has, however, established several programs on which we can continue to build in the area of marketing and promotions."
