DALLAS - A runner-up finish in football and a "Round of 16" appearance by women's tennis helped Northwest finish 44th in the 2007-08 U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup among Division II schools.
Northwest scored 329 points based on the postseason success of football (runner-up), women's tennis (Round of 16), men's tennis (second round), men's basketball (second round) and women's basketball (second round). Northwest was one of six MIAA schools in the top 50, led by Emporia State with an 11th-place finish.
The Directors' Cup awards points based on the postseason finish of up to seven men's and seven women's teams. Grand Valley State won its fifth straight Directors' Cup, despite not winning any national championships in 2007-08.
The annual award is sponsored by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and USA Today.
