Bearcat Baseball Sweeps Weekly Awards

MARYVILLE, Mo.—Northwest Missouri State sophomore Jon Henne Jr. has been named the MIAA Hitter of the Week and junior hurler Danny Malone has been named MIAA Pitcher of the Week for the period ended April 27. It is the first such honor for both players.

Henne Jr. hit .471 (8-for-17) in five games during the week with eight RBIs, seven runs scored, a double and his first two home runs of the season. He had two hits in each of four games played against Pittsburg State during the weekend. He homered in games two and three of the series.

Henne Jr. had a career-best four RBIs in a 10-9, extra-inning loss to the Gorillas in the nightcap of a doubleheader Saturday. He tied the game in the bottom of the ninth inning with a two-out, two-run single off PSU closer Nate Templeton.

Henne Jr. had made five starts on the year prior to the five he made last week and raised his average from .174 to .316.

Malone (3-2) threw a four-hit shutout, his first of the season, in the final game of the series against the Gorillas. He struck out seven without issuing a walk and faced three more than the minimum.

Malone retired the side in five of his eight innings worked and sat down 12 in a row at one point. The Gorillas managed four singles and didn’t advance a runner past second base.

Northwest will play its final series of the conference and regular season Thursday-Saturday against Truman in Kirksville, Mo.
