MARYVILLE, Mo.—Northwest Missouri State sophomore linebacker Adam Vondrak has been named the MIAA Defensive Player of the Week for the period ended Sept. 21.
Vondrak was Northwest’s leading tackler in a 49-0 win against Truman in a battle for the Old Hickory Stick Saturday in Kirksville. It was the Bearcats’ first shutout since a 27-0 win against Midwestern State during the 2006 NCAA playoffs.
Vondrak had a collegiate-best seven tackles, four solo, in the win. He has 21 stops in four games this season – the second-highest total on the team.
Northwest held the MIAA’s leading passer, Matt Ticich, to 59 yards passing and the Bulldogs to 143 total yards in the game. Truman finished with seven first downs, two of which were gained by Northwest penalty. The team ran 18 plays in the second half and netted six yards.
Vondrak was one of 24 Northwest players who recorded a tackle. Minus special teams, the Bearcats only needed to make 36 stops in the contest.
