MARYVILLE, Mo.—Northwest Missouri State head men’s basketball coach Steve Tappmeyer and his staff have signed Omaha Roncalli’s Jake Petersen (G, 6-0) and received a commitment from former Lee’s Summit West prep Nick Mikle (G, 6-3) for the upcoming season.
Petersen, a first-team all-state selection in Nebraska, averaged 17 points as a senior and 16 points as a junior for the Crimson Pride. He helped lead Roncalli to the state tournament during the 2006-07 season. He also competed on the Future Stars AAU team and was a 2006 Bison All-Star team member.
“Jake is a player with great upside as far as a college point guard,” said Tappmeyer. “I really like his potential and believe he’ll be a good fit for our system.”
Mikle spent the 2007-08 season playing for IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. Prior to that, he helped lead the Titans of Lee’s Summit West to a conference championship and the Missouri Class 4 State quarterfinals his junior season.
While at IMG, Mikle averaged 11.4 points and earned all-tournament team honors while competing against some of the nation’s best prep talent.
“We’re excited for Nick to join our program,” said Tappmeyer. “He had a solid high school career and we believe he’ll have a chance to come in and compete for a spot immediately.”
Petersen and Mikle join Jake Reinders (Omaha, Neb.) and Blake Bales (Overland Park, Kan.) as new additions to the Bearcat basketball program. Northwest graduated six seniors from a team that won the MIAA tournament and advanced to the round of 32 in the NCAA tournament this past winter.
