Hanna's 18 Kills Puts Northwest Past Mary 3-1

OMAHA, Neb. - Freshman Alex Hanna hit a match-high 18 kills and hit .412 to lead Northwest to a 3-1 victory against Mary to wrap up the Comfort Inn & Suites and Firewater Grille Tournament at Nebraska-Omaha. The Bearcats hit a season-high .206 in winning 25-18, 22-25, 25-21, 25-21.

Northwest (2-2) used a seven-point rally in the first set, helped by back-to-back service aces by Katie Swenson, to take a 14-12 lead. The Bearcats would accumulate seven kills for their final 11 points in taking a 25-21 set victory.

Mary struggled in the third set with 12 attack errors, five during a seven-point swing for Northwest. An 8-1 Bearcat run in the fourth set provided a 15-12 lead that held for the 25-21 set victory.

Hanna ended the weekend with the most kills for the Bearcats in any of the four matches. Sara Falcone and Paige Spangenberg led Northwest with 12 digs apiece. Swenson finished with three service aces, one away from matching her career-best.

The Bearcats travel to the Missouri Southern Invitational next weekend, opening Sept. 5 with Drury and Midwestern State.
