
JOPLIN, Mo. – Five Bearcats hit seven or more kills in a balanced scoring attack, but Northwest couldn’t give Midwestern State its first loss of the season in a 25-16, 26-24, 25-22 match at the Missouri Southern Invitational.
Midwestern State (6-0) hit .459 to take a 25-16 set one victory. Northwest (2-4) used a pair of four-point rallies midway through the second set to take a 15-11 lead. But a 23-19 advantage near the end of the set wouldn’t hold, as the Bearcats lost three set points in a 26-24 set.
Three Bearcats recorded three kills in the final set, helping the team outhit the Mustangs .219-.200. Rachel Nisi led the way with three kills and four digs.
Nisi, Amber Ryan, Alex Hanna and Sara Falcone all recorded eight kills, leading to a season-best 41 kills for the team in three-set matches. Nisi also led the Bearcats with 11 digs.
Northwest continues action tomorrow against Central Oklahoma at 10 a.m. The Bronchos (1-5) split the first day in Joplin, Mo.
