Women Picked Third in MIAA Preseason Coaches' Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State women's basketball, the defending MIAA tournament champions, were picked to finish third for the second-straight year in the 2008-09 MIAA Preseason Coaches' Poll releaed today at the MIAA Basketball Kickoff Luncheon in Kansas City, Mo. Washburn and Emporia State, the 2007-08 regular season co-champions, were picked to finish 1-2.

Head Coach Gene Steinmeyer begins his ninth season at Northwest and 23rd overall nine wins short of career victory No. 500 after guiding the Bearcats to their second straight NCAA tournament appearance last season. Meghan Brue returns as the only starter from that squad where she averaged 11.0 points per game and 4.8 rebounds per game.

The women begin the 2008-09 season with an exhibition contest at Illinois State Nov. 8. The Bearcats begin the regular season at defending Division II runner-up South Dakota Nov. 15 before the home-opener Nov. 21 against Evangel for the Winstead-Reeves Classic.
