Northwest Wins Eighth Straight; Finishes MIAA Season Undefeated

EMPORIA, Kan. - Northwest Missouri State women's tennis won it's eighth straight match and finished the MIAA regular season with a perfect 7-0 record by defeating Emporia State (11-3, 3-3) 7-2 on the road today. The No. 31 Bearcats (19-3, 7-0) improved to 10-0 against regionally-ranked opponents.

Kristina Vucenov returned to form following an injury that kept her out of the last two matches, winning in straight sets at No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-0 against Marcela Bayon. She also paired with Lina Gomez for the first time this season at No. 3 doubles, winning the match 9-7.

Gomez and Jordan Lipira each increased their winning streaks in singles play to seven matches, both falling behind after the first set before claiming three-set victories.

Lipira and Veronica Castilla won their third straight match at No. 2 doubles since being paired together against Nebraska-Omaha April 16.

Up Next: The Bearcats host Graceland (Iowa) April 23 before traveling to the MIAA Tournament April 26-27. First serve from Frank Grube Courts is 3 p.m.
