Northwest Competes at ITA Regional in Texas
ABILENE, Texas—Six Northwest Missouri State women’s tennis players competed in the Wilson/ITA South Central Regional Tournament hosted by Abilene Christian University Oct. 3-5.
Junior Lisa Pendrak finished 1-1 in both the singles and doubles tournaments and was the top Northwest performer.
Pendrak beat Washburn’s Alyssa Castillo 6-2, 4-6, 10-8 in the first round of the singles tournament before falling to Dina Pavlin of ACU in the round of 32. She then teamed with Veronica Castilla to beat Tarleton State’s tandem of Jade Charlot and Adriana Jaskova 6-4, 4-6, 10-2. The two Bearcats lost a 15-13 third-set tiebreaker to Central Oklahoma in the round of 16.
Freshman Erika Leston scored the only other Northwest victory in the tournament. She beat East Central’s Angelita Deutdamo in straight sets in her opening singles match before meeting ACU’s Jaclyn Walker in the second round.
