Go to a safe place - any place away from the attacker. Find someone you trust or call the 24-hour hotline at 660.562.1972.
Get medical attention immediately. A medical examination will provide any necessary treatment and collect important evidence. Some injuries may not be immediately apparent. DO NOT wash, use the toilet, or change clothing if you can avoid it. If you do change clothing, put all clothing you were wearing at the time of the assault in a paper bag, not plastic.
Consider reporting the crime to authorities. Call Campus Safety at 660.562.1254, or call 911 to contact local authorities.
Remember that seeking medical care and reporting the assault do not require that you seek further legal action. It is vital to make the initial report so that you have the opportunity to pursue legal action later if you so decide.
Find emotional support. Get ongoing counseling to help with your recovery. Counseling is available at the University Wellness Center and is covered by the Wellness Fee that you pay each trimester.
Recognize that healing from sexual assault takes time. Give yourself the time you need.
